Lower School Collaboration and Instruction Coordinator (2025-2026 SY)

Position Description:

The Lower School Collaboration and Instruction Coordinator partners with the Head of Lower School and others to help develop programming that is innovative and utilizes current best practices in education.  She/he will support approximately 40 lower school teachers and 276 lower school students.  A successful candidate will be a self-starter, will be comfortable taking risks, have a growth mindset and positive outlook, and be flexible, as this role will require different skills each day.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Lower School, Assistant Head of Lower School, Director of Innovation and Collaboration, Director of the Institute for Social Impact, and Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Serve on the Lower School Admin Team
  • Meet with grade-level teams to support collaboration and integration of curriculum across disciplines and grade levels
  • Work with grade-level teams to identify opportunities for curriculum improvement and to help plan innovative and engaging lessons
  • Assist teachers in creating joyful classroom environments conducive to risk-taking, self-agency, empathy, and growth mindset
  • Track curriculum across all Lower School grade levels
  • Support the integration of technology into the curriculum and serve on the Ed Tech team
  • Oversee the integration of Social-Emotional Learning, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Social Impact into the curriculum
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Serve as an example to colleagues in manners of classroom management, pedagogy, and school procedures
  • Support teachers’ use of the Dream Lab and assist in creating content and programming for the Dream Lab
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree required/Advanced degree preferred in elementary education or related field
  • Teaching experience in a range of elementary levels, ideally in independent school setting
  • Experience and interest in developing innovative programming
  • A sense of curiosity and a strong growth mindset
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Solid understanding of current best practices in teaching
  • Commitment to being a supportive, respectful, positive, and energetic colleague and mentor
  • Detail-oriented, organized, strong time-management skills
  • Can prioritize tasks, anticipate needs, and follow through
  • Must have the ability to work in a school environment through satisfactory completion of all legally required and School-required background and screening checks and verifications, including criminal and sex offender background checks

Training:

  • Participate in all requisite School trainings prior to the start of the school and throughout the School year
  • Attend required staff development and training sessions throughout the year
  • Attend periodic in-service meetings
  • Acknowledge receipt of the current Employee Handbook and be responsible for reviewing the contents and abiding by rules, policies, and procedures stated in the Handbook or otherwise by the School
  • Abide by Hockaday’s Code of Ethics and Conduct
  • Commit to the ideals expressed in Hockaday’s Tenets of Faculty Excellence

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Regularly works in standard office or classroom conditions and climate
  • Regularly uses close and distance vision, including working at a computer screen for extended periods of time; has ability to observe students from various distances
  • Frequently required to move around the office/classroom; works at a desk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to occasionally move items weighing up to 30lbs. across the campus/classroom/office
  • Ability to periodically support before- and after-school or weekend events
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with students, fellow staff, and community members
