Essential Functions:

• Implement lesson plans and materials provided by the regular teacher, divisional office or department head.

• Adjust and personalize lessons based on student needs and classroom dynamics, while adhering to the school’s curriculum standards.
• Document a summary of the day, including progress on assignments and notable student behavior, both positive and negative.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with students, colleagues, and parents (if needed) to support effective learning.
• Adhere to school policies and procedures, such as taking attendance and managing classroom protocols.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and division heads to ensure seamless educational continuity.
• Supervise students throughout the school day, including during recess, lunch, and transitions between activities.
• Demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, and enthusiasm while teaching across different subjects and grade levels.
• Lead by example in classroom management, teaching techniques, and adherence to school policies.
• Maintain a flexible, positive outlook, strong work ethic, and sense of humor in diverse teaching situations.

Qualifications/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree, with a preference for candidates holding a degree in Education or a related field.
• Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience is preferred.
• Proven ability to manage classrooms effectively and engage students in meaningful learning.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on teamwork and collaboration.
• Experience in leveraging technology for both instructional innovation and administrative tasks.

Hockaday is seeking an experienced security officer to join a team of professionals responsible for ensuring the security of The Hockaday School campus and its students, employees, visitors, and property through the effective execution of established policies and procedures.

Security

• Conduct regular patrols of the premises, including interior and exterior areas, to detect and deter any suspicious activities or security breaches
• Lock and unlock interior and exterior doors on campus as necessary
• Verify the identity of individuals entering the premises, ensuring that only authorized personnel and visitors are granted access
• Provide physical security at building and gate entrances through established protocols
• Provide friendly and professional assistance to employees, visitors, and vendors, addressing inquiries, providing directions, and offering support as needed
• Perform ID Checks of parents, visitors, or vendors by utilizing the RAPTOR system
• Utilize security cameras and monitoring systems to observe and report any unusual or unauthorized behavior and/or person(s)
• Write incident reports, answer phones, use radio equipment
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of security incidents, observations, and any action taken, and prepare written reports as required
• Coordinate with other security personnel, law enforcement agencies, and emergency responders as necessary to address security concerns and maintain a safe environment
• Respond promptly to emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fires, or security incidents, and take appropriate action to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of all individuals
• Set up traffic cones to facilitate the flow (ingress/egress) of traffic, in accordance with the Traffic Management Plan, for carpools and special events
• Deliver mail, packages, and copy paper, as required, intra-campus

 Safety

• Monitor the campus for environmental hazards, illegal activities, and vandalism; report or take corrective action as required by school policy
• Assist with traffic flow during student drop-off and pickup periods and other traffic control as needed
• Conduct interviews when necessary to gather information: in person/by phone
• Remain up to date in CPR, AED, and Basic first aid certifications and tourniquet training
• Report security and/or general maintenance problems to the proper authorities
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 Abuse Risk Management Standards

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with students
• Attend required abuse risk management training
• Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements

Hockaday is seeking an experienced Director of Facilities to further the mission of the School by directing and coordinating activities related to the physical plant, consisting of over 450,000 square feet and 88 acres. Activities include the continued implementation of the facilities master plan, the construction and maintenance of facilities, the procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and services, and the management of the transportation fleet and facility vendors. In addition, the Director supervises 20 maintenance and six housekeeping personnel.

• Develops and executes strategy for maintenance and operation of the campus
• Collaborates with program and staff leadership, to understand special needs and maintain quality in support of the mission (e.g. academic leaders, food service, athletics, technology, security)
• Schedules and manages regular preventive maintenance on all building systems, including MEP, roofs, finishes, safety and monitoring systems, and other equipment
• Oversee the scheduling, use, and maintenance of busses, vans and sother School owned vehicles
• Manages responses to all facility work orders using established processes and developing new processes as appropriate
• Monitors the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, such as offices, conference rooms, parking lots and outdoor recreation spaces
• Organizes, schedules, and supervises all repair and construction projects, with sensitivity to School seasonality and operational needs
• Selects third-party maintenance contractors and manages the fulfillment of their contract obligations, including quality control of their work
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including work safety regulations. Oversees inspections of all building systems as needed for compliance (boiler, fire alarms, elevators, etc.)
• Creates and manages annual operating budget and capital renewal (PPRRSM) budget for facilities department in conjunction with the COO
• Posseses an understanding of central heating and cooling through experience with central plant chillers, boilers, controls, and distribution
• Gathers, analyzes, and reports data that measures and demonstrates performance of the Facilities Department using the CMMS
• Supervises the facilities support of campus events (e.g. setups and takedowns)
• Participates constructively in the strategic development and management of the campus (e.g. master plan, zoning compliance, utilities services, and energy management)
• Hires, schedules, and supervises all building and grounds maintenance staff as well as the Housekeeping Manager
• Develop and/or coordinate training in facility maintenance and safety methods, procedures, and techniques.
• Must be able to anticipate needs, possess excellent organizational skills and be able to multi-task to successfully manage multiple activities and projects concurrently
• Posseses great time management, organization, and prioritization abilities
• Must be detail-oriented, possess solid analytical and problem-solving skills, and sound decision-making skills.
• Must keep up with current trends, technologies, and developments in the field of facility maintenance and incorporate these as appropriate

• College degree or equivalent experience required, preferably in one of the following disciplines: Industrial Management, Construction Management, Project Management, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Architecture
• Ten years of related technical work experience is required, including a minimum of five years experience in an educational setting. Related experience could entail construction, plant engineer, or facility management
• Proven personnel management skills and contractor management experience, with aptitude to judge quality of performance in all major technical trades and personal experience in at least one technical trade (carpentry, mechanical, electrical, structural)
• Experience with and proven understanding of the management of central plant chillers and boilers, controls, and distribution
• Technology skills sufficient to prepare reports in Excel and Word, and aptitude to operate BAS (building automation system). Related experience with databases sufficient to comfortably apply the CMMS features
• Communication skills (oral and written) and confidence in conveying information to all types of members of the community, including teachers, administrators, trustees, parents, and students
• Ability to adapt behavior to function effectively in the institution’s culture, including those specific to the School and its traditions
• Experience with and proven skills in managing grounds and athletics field maintenance
• Proven skills in energy management and conservation

The Hockaday School invites applications for a Head Varsity Basketball Coach. This position requires knowledge of the technical aspect of the sport of coaching basketball and the ability to manage the day-to-day operations of the program. The coach should provide an atmosphere in which each student is treated with respect and dignity, create an opportunity to improve skill development and provide a positive environment.

The Head Varsity Basketball Coach will collaborate with the Athletics Department to support the mission and values of The Hockaday School and provide a rewarding athletic experience for all participants.

• Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical conditioning necessary for individual and team success
• Prepare, organize, and supervise all practices
• Oversee basketball program development at all levels, including Middle School, providing strategic direction for the entire program
• Attend scheduling meetings and assist with scheduling of all competitions and organize team travel where required
• Abide by all school and conferences rules and policies
• Secure, care for, clean, and inventory all uniforms and equipment each season
• Develop and establish open communicate with parents and athletes
• Submit information to the Director of Athletics including, but not limited to, season results, inventory of uniforms and equipment, award nominations, grading information, and program needs for the following season
• Drive teams and/or equipment to and from Hockaday and practices or competitions; must meet Hockaday’s requirements to be cleared to drive (does not require a CDL)

• At least three years of experience in coaching basketball, or similar relevant experience

Hockaday is seeking one substitute teacher for our Child Development Center (CDC). Children range in age from 6 weeks to five years. The class sizes are small. The teachers will support each other by following the lesson plan and caring for the young children in the CDC.
